When people think of Gyeongbokgung Palace photoshoots, they usually imagine traditional hanbok outfits. But honestly? Some of the most natural, modern, joyful, and stylish sessions I photograph are actually non-hanbok couple and group photoshoots at the palace.

During spring and summer, Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul transforms into one of the most beautiful photography locations in Korea. The beautiful flowers, soft sunlight, palace architecture, and open courtyards create the perfect backdrop for couples, friends, families, and travel groups who want timeless memories in Seoul, without necessarily wearing hanbok.

If you’re planning a couple photoshoot in Seoul, a family photography session in Korea, or a group travel photoshoot at Gyeongbokgung Palace, this guide will help you understand exactly:

  • How to get there?

  • What to expect?

  • What to wear?

  • Whether hanbok is necessary?

  • And how I photograph happy, natural moments in Seoul :)

Recently, I photographed a fun and relaxed couple and group session at Gyeongbokgung Palace during spring. The combination of laughter, candid moments, and cinematic palace views made the session feel effortless and full of life.

📍 Why Gyeongbokgung Palace Is Perfect for Couple & Group Photoshoots

Gyeongbokgung Palace is one of the most iconic landmarks in Korea, but what many visitors don’t realize is how versatile it is for photography — especially during spring and summer.

The palace offers:

  • Elegant Korean architecture

  • Huge open spaces for natural movement

  • Beautiful symmetry and depth

  • Seasonal flowers and green trees

  • Bright, airy summer lighting

  • A timeless Seoul atmosphere

Unlike crowded urban streets, Gyeongbokgung gives your photos a calm and cinematic feeling while still being located right in the center of Seoul.

For non-hanbok sessions, the palace works beautifully because modern outfits create a stylish contrast against the traditional Korean architecture.

This location is ideal for:

  • Couple photography in Seoul

  • Family photoshoots in Korea

  • Friends & travel group photography

  • Vacation photos in Seoul

  • Anniversary and pre-wedding photos

  • Casual luxury travel portraits

🚇 How to Go to Gyeongbokgung Palace

Getting to the palace is very easy, even for tourists visiting Seoul for the first time.

By Subway (Best & Easiest)

  • Take Line 3 → Get off at Gyeongbokgung Station

  • Exit through Exit 5

From there, it’s only a short walk to the palace entrance.

You can also access it from:

  • Anguk Station

  • Gwanghwamun Station

Both are close to beautiful photo spots nearby.

By Taxi : Simply tell the driver:“Gyeongbokgung Palace”

Most taxi drivers in Seoul know it immediately because it’s one of the city’s most famous attractions.

🌸 Why Spring & Summer Are Beautiful for Palace Photoshoots

Spring and summer bring a completely different mood to Gyeongbokgung Palace compared to colder seasons.

In spring:

  • Cherry blossoms and beautiful summer blooms

  • Soft pastel tones make photos feel romantic

  • The weather is comfortable for walking

In summer:

  • The palace becomes vibrant and lively

  • Longer daylight gives more shooting flexibility

  • Golden hour sunlight looks incredible against palace walls

I usually recommend:

  • Early morning sessions for softer light & fewer crowds

  • Late afternoon / golden hour for warm cinematic colors

Both work beautifully for:

  • Fun couple photoshoot

  • Solo Portrait Sessions

  • Friend groups traveling together

👗 Hanbok or No Hanbok? (Important!)

This particular photoshoot style is designed for non-hanbok photography at Gyeongbokgung Palace.

And honestly, casual or semi-formal modern outfits can look incredibly elegant here.

You do NOT need a hanbok to have beautiful palace photos.

In fact, non-hanbok sessions often feel:

  • More natural

  • More comfortable

  • More relaxed

  • More personal to your real personality

I usually recommend:

  • Neutral or pastel outfits

  • Coordinated colors for groups

  • Comfortable shoes

  • Flowing dresses or smart casual outfits

Avoid:

  • Large logos

  • Neon colors

  • Heavy backpacks during shooting

The goal is to create timeless, joyful photos while still keeping the focus on your connection and experience in Seoul.
